HUNGARIAN LIBRARY

The American Hungarian Library, a cultural gem located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, NY, is a literary hub for the Hungarian community. Historically, it was designed as a traditional reading room; but contemporary users found that they needed a space that would allow them more flexibility and cater to a larger range of programming needs. The design team were asked to envision a transformation that would allow the library to function as a vibrant space for research and cultural exchange. The new space was designed to host exhibitions, classes, screenings and seminars. The colors, graphics and furniture that were curated for the space, drew inspiration from vibrant Hungarian modern and folk art traditions.
